DC Metro gets cell service!

This could be good news or it could be bad news, depending on your personal preference but regardless, cellular service is coming to  a Metrorail station near you!

The first roll out of cell phone service for WMATA is due to to begin service on Oct 16th. The approved carriers which include Verizon, AT&T, Sprint Nextel &  T-Mobile will each be building their own system in addition to a system that will be used just for WMATA during emergencies.

The stations set to receive service on this first roll out are listed below.

  • Ballston-MU
  • Bethesda
  • Columbia Hts.
  • Crystal City
  • Dupont Circle
  • Farragut North
  • Farragut West
  • Federal Center SW
  • Foggy Bottom-GWU
  • Friendship Hts.
  • Gallery Place-Chinatown
  • Judiciary Sq.
  • L’Enfant Plaza
  • McPherson Sq.
  • Metro Ctr.
  • Pentagon
  • Pentagon City
  • Rosslyn
  • Smithsonian
  • Union Station
